Virginia State Tree
Both the senate and house of the lovely commonwealth of Virginia mutually proclaimed the dogwood to be the Virginia state tree.
Sometimes affectionately known as the "Old Dominion," Virginia also proclaimed the dogwood to be the state flower, making Virginia the only state where the state flower is the same as the Virginia state tree.
The dogwood was chosen as the Virginia state tree and flower in an effort to draw attention to Virginia's illustrative past.
All throughout the Commonwealth, you will find the Virginia state tree bordering streets and lanes, complimenting yards and gardens, in city and country settings. All this due in part to the common pride of the Virginians, and also to the plain fact that the dogwood is a gorgeous tree.
Just a simple drive through any Virginian residential neighborhood in the spring of the year will prove just how popular the Virginia state tree is.
It is interesting that typically, when you see the dogwood displayed as the Virginia state tree or flower (floral emblem), you will see a white dogwood flower. The color was (is) not specified, so any hue of dogwood would represent the Virginia state tree, but it just always seems to be the white flower.
Regardless of color, the dogwood provides beauty to the Virginia landscape, and makes a fine selection as the Virginia state tree.
